Indonesia's banking sector is attractive. The central bank (Bank Indonesia) has maintained its benchmark reference rate (BI Rate) at 5.75 percent since February 2012. For deposits, Indonesian banks usually give interest of about six percent. For loans, however, the banks charge high interest rates, sometimes over 11 percent.
We expect Indonesia's economic recovery - reflected in our real GDP growth forecast of above 6.0% in 2022, from around 3.5% in 2021 - to improve business prospects for domestic banks. We believe Mandiri is well placed to take advantage of stronger conditions. Maybank is also ranked 106th in The Banker's 2020 Top 1000 World Banks (as of July 2020) and 349th in the Forbes Global 2000 Leading Companies (as of May 2020). Maybank is the largest public listed company on Bursa Malaysia, the Malaysian stock exchange, with a market capitalisation of US$23.7 billion as of 31 December 2019.

With an 11.1% market share in Indonesia, Credit Suisse ranked third in the ECM bookrunner league table between April 2021 and March 2022, and came first among international banks, according to Dealogic. Local house Danareksa Sekuritas ranked second with an 11.2% market share and Mandiri Sekuritas took the top slot with 23.3%.
